Future perspectives
For many telecommunications providers and service providers worldwide, sales are still generated on the basis of the existing LAN and WAN services, MPLS etc. However, this is currently changing quickly. The Software-Defined Network (SDN) and the Software-Defined WAN (SD-WAN) continue to develop and expand their market presence; this also applies to other related network services such as Performance Assurance Management (PAM), Managed Networks & Devices, (MND), mobility triggers and influencing factors (4G / 5G) etc. Companies are involved in the integration, automation, orchestration and management of their network resources and processes to be able to seamlessly expand applications and network resources in order to meet company and user goals more efficiently and securely than was previously possible, and to eliminate silos and provider dependencies. Together with cloud networks, these points bring about the greatest change in networks and network operations over the past 30 years; Some telecommunications providers / service providers, such as AT&T, have already prepared plans to make 75% or even a higher proportion of their networks SDN-compatible by 2022 and to integrate corresponding SDN functions.
